This letter was written by a young soldier to his mother during the civil war, describing how he wished the war was over because he is tired of being in the service. It seems even his colonel wishes the war would end making a bet of one hundred dollars that the war would end within thirty days. From reading this letter I realized that the young men who were fighting in this war did not wish to be there killing who could have been their neighbor the month before. When you think of a soldier you think of someone firm and ready to stand up for what they believe is just, but that is not the case in many wars such as the Vietnam War, many just wished for an end to the conflict.
